Interview with Rounak Rai

Rounak Rai

1- Would you like to tell us about the concepts you are experimenting in your paintings?

The concept of my paintings is very clear.
I want to create/develop my own style in which I will showcase my feelings without any barriers in simplest way will magic of supernatural powers  and for this I am experimenting with my forms and colours.
Forms are going towards simplicity and colours became with glow of truth and spirituality
I think my paintings can explore a new era of Indian tribal art.

2- What are the ongoing projects and what innovations will they present?

My ongoing projects are painting series on Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Both are an epic in Indian literature.
These paintings will represent Indian culture with new flavor

3- What do you think about an artist's social commitment?

Artists can create a civilisation with their  thoughts and experiments
The responsibility of an artist is to provide a truth path for others but for this first he should complete his inner journey to find himself and with honesty.
In Indian culture we believe in pure soul that can answer all the questions along with the truths of this universe managed by supreme power.
He will guide my art and the develop of the society but we can accept to not his guide.
I also believe that art is meditation for me and I can connect with supreme power.
This magic connection  creates  my paintings.

4- What is your relationship with the market and how do you judge it?

Art and market are two different things.
If work of an artist is for market then that artist is not real artist or honest.
I think art is very personal thing.
Artist is not a normal person because he is connected with an other world something like supernatural and this state make him aggressive and his abnormal behaviour comes from his journey of searching the truths in inner soul
Market can't understand an artist from his behaviour and his social life because is social life is hidden and can't be complete without his inner soul
His real mother, father, brother, sister and wife also can't identify him because an artist sharesto  accept only the supreme truth of supreme power and his truth is reflected in his paintings.
The artist lives his earthly life like a testimonial of the universal law.
So,   is responsibility  of the market to understand artist from his paintings and his behaviour. I am always researching the connection with the supreme power, studing the ancient books of indian religion and history. The actors of the market must read  on artist  life to understand   his inner journey.
So they will understand the art of each artist.
The inner truth of an artist is like a lotus surrounded with lot of mud and dirty water.
My teacher sayed " You have to develop the eye  to understand art he called  art of the  eye  "
For me the eye is magic. It is the eye of the universe. In many religions the eye is the icon of God, the supreme power.
Market must have  art's eye as all  art actors, the  advisers and art critics , the gallerists and the collectors.
My relationship with market is based on sensibility, knowoledge and  intelligence of these actors.
I continue to make my art without to think to the market.
The market have to to find me.

5- Your dream in the drawer?

My dream is to make my paintings as medium of conversation with my inner soul and with  connection with supreme power,  I will explore all things of this universe.
With my paintings  all world will live  this magical journey of meeting with the universe.
Extraordinary and wornderful journey towards the happiness of purity of soul.
